2018.08.18 – A chorus of cheers greeted the Raiders at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum – the home of the USC Trojans – played home to Jon Gruden and his squad. Raiders QB Derek Carr to play vs. Ravens

ALAMEDA – Raiders leaning towards quarterback Derek Carr playing this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Great news brewing from a horrible game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the QB trying to stiff-arm a defender, bruised his throwing hand and thumb while running for a first down.

Carr had an MRI done on Monday morning that showed no damage to the hand. The swelling had decreased considerably from Sunday to the following day. Initial X-rays at O.co Coliseum showed no broken bones, or structural damage to the hand.

Jack Del Rio seems confident in his quarterback’s health. “He came to my office, gripped a football well in his hand and held it straight out,” Del Rio said “Carr said, ‘I can throw it if you want.’ He was all excited because the tests came back really positive. “I think he’s going to be in good shape this week.” Raiders have great hope in his playing status for this Sunday.

This is wonderful news for Amary Cooper, with all the work he put in with Carr, he was most disappointed after the game. Cooper said “It’s a huge blow. He’s our starting quarterback and the leader of our offense. We need him. We’ll see how it plays out.”

On a related note; Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was fined $35,000 by the NFL for his personal foul against Raiders receiver Amari Cooper during their opener on Sunday.

Jones got on top of Cooper, knocked off his helmet and slammed his head against it at the end of a play during the second quarter, drawing a penalty for unnecessary roughness. He wasn’t ejected, and a scrum resulted after the play ended.

Del Rio was not available to the local press on Tuesday at the team’s Alameda training complex. The Raiders resumed their practice week on Wednesday around noon.

The Silver and Black do not have a third quarterback, they only have two on the roster, Mc Gloin would start if Carr can’t go.
Christian Ponder is in San Francisco and could return quickly if need it. Ponder was part of the final roster cuts, and was contacted Monday about a possible return in case Carr suffers a setback or struggles throwing this week.
