2025.03.13 – Warriors guard Stephen Curry became the first player in NBA history with 4,000 career 3-pointers as the Golden State rout the Sacramento Kings 130-104 on Thursday night for their 11th of 12 win.
Playing a day before his 37th birthday, the two-time NBA MVP needed two more from deep coming into the game. Last Saturday, he became the 26th player to score 25,000 points.
Curry hit the front rim with his next try, a 30-footer four minutes before halftime. He could sense how everybody in the building couldn’t wait.
“I could feel the energy and the buzz from the beginning of the game after I made my first 3, even the second one I shot and missed it was an adrenaline rush, and they were with me every moment of the game tonight,” Curry said. “When that second one went in I knew there was a lot of game left so I tried to not get too ahead of myself. But it was a special moment to feel that energy and allow them to enjoy that milestone and accomplishment with me.”
Helping his cause were 11 points from Curry, a season-high 23 points from Draymond Green, 17 points — and a career-high six assists — from Moses Moody and 22-for-39 shooting from 3-point range.

“I actually had I’d call it an emotional moment on the bench when I saw him. They didn’t tell me that they found him and got a video message from him. That was my vet when I was here my rookie year,” Curry said. “I would love to have quizzed our team on the bench and see if anybody knew who that was because that was such a long time ago. … Really cool to kind of think back how far I’ve come from the first one to 4,000, which is crazy.”
Jonathan Kuminga ended a 31-game absence — caused by a right ankle sprain on Jan. 4 — with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting. Another sellout crowd roared with approval as soon as he checked in and first touched the ball. Curry summoned a standing ovation — for several possessions — with his pump-and-dribble triple 3:41 into the third quarter.
Golden State (38-28) maintains its sixth-place Western Conference standing, improving to 13-2 since Jimmy Butler’s team debut. Butler added six points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Curry wasn’t the only Warriors legend to make a milestone Thursday at Chase Center, coach Steve Kerr secured his 557th coaching victory, equaling Al Attles for Golden State’s regular-season record.
With his grayed blonde hair dampened, Kerr acknowledged through a smile the locker room enacted “a celebration of sorts.”
Added Kerr, who can surpass Attles on Saturday against the New York Knicks: “Winning solves everything and enhances everything. Covers up everything. This is what it’s about is — can you find a rhythm and a groove and get to a place where everybody is really enjoying themselves, contributing and feeling good about things?”
Seemingly, yes.
Kerr’s first win — a 95-77 triumph Oct. 29, 2014 — also occurred against the Kings, who on Friday trailed by 23 in the second quarter and pulled within four points early in the third. Curry answered with a driving layup and his 4,000th triple on the next possession.
The ovation was followed by a tribute video played on the scoreboard during the ensuing timeout. Then, the blowout — buoyed by eight double-figure Warriors scorers for the fifth time in the past decade — commenced.

Added Green, who has assisted more of Curry’s triples than anybody else: “To cross that milestone that no one has ever crossed is very fitting for the way he changed the game. … Happy it happened at home. … Couldn’t have happened to a better person who’s a steward of the game, the way he’s carried the franchise on his back, what he’s done for the NBA and the league as whole.”
As thrilled as Green was for Curry is as thrilled as Curry was for Kerr, who invited Attles — with fellow Warriors greats Tom Meschery and Nate Thurmond — to speak with the Warriors during his first season at their helm.
The trio spoke about the franchise’s history, Kerr shared Wednesday after practice, and Attles talked to the players about “what the game has meant to him and what the Warriors have meant to him.” Kerr said Attles “really epitomized everything this franchise is about and that’s why his legacy lives on.”
So will Kerr’s.
“He changed everything,” Green said of his four-time NBA championship coach who has “been as important as anybody with what this organization has become. … His temperament, what he brought, the offense that he brought to this organization, the atmosphere that he brought to this organization, the family atmosphere, that was Steve bringing that.”
Curry said Kerr “has brought the best out of us” and noted they still joke about how they could have been Knicks. New York drafted eighth overall in 2009 and Curry was drafted seventh by Warriors. The Knicks also had a coaching vacancy that Kerr bypassed to lead Golden State.
“Fate would have it that we were here,” Curry said. “I love his humility, his work ethic, his level of care. It’s not an easy job. Coaching is a very thankless job, but I appreciate the fact that … he has records and milestones that he can look back and be proud of.”
That makes the two of them.

DeMar DeRozan led Sacramento (33-32) with 23 points. The Warriors have 10 more wins than losses for the first time this season. … Golden State led wire-to-wire for the third time this season. … Moody assisted Curry’s 4,000th 3-pointer. … The Warriors improved to 17-1 when he starts.
What might Kerr expect next from his superstar Curry?
“8,000,” he cracked.
The two time MVP could be tempted.
“I don’t think he wants to coach that long, so don’t put that pressure on him,” Curry said, “I like a challenge.”
