Warriors silence the Jazz
The Warriors continued their unbeaten homestand, earning a 103-85 victory over the visiting Utah Jazz on Wednesday night. Klay Thompson led all scorers with 20 points. Stephen Curry added 16 points and nine assists, while Andrew Bogut posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. With the victory, the Warriors improve to 27-1 on the season, and in doing so, clinch the best winning percentage in NBA history heading into Christmas Day.
In a matchup of two teams on polar opposite ends of the pace spectrum, it was the Jazz who enforced their style of play on the game, at least to start out. Rodney Hood gave Utah a slight 9-8 advantage with 8:44 left to play in the first quarter, but the Jazz would only score two more points until the final minute of the frame, allowing the Warriors to climb back in front. After Trey Burke ended Utah’s scoreless drought with a jumper, Stephen Curry scored the final four points of the quarter to give Golden State a 23-13 lead at the end of one.
As slow as the Jazz started out the game, they were equally on fire to start the second quarter. Joe Ingles’ three-pointer at the 8:34 mark capped a 14-7 Jazz run and gave them more points in the first 3:26 of the second frame than they had in the entire first quarter. However, the Warriors would immediately respond with an 11-0 run of their own over the next four minutes to rebuild their double-digit lead. Utah would then outscore Golden State 9-2 over the next two minutes, before Andrew Bogut and Draymond Green combined for back-to-back buckets. Finally, Jeff Withey’s dunk with 52 seconds left closed out the scoring in the quarter and sent the game into halftime with the Warriors holding a 47-38 advantage.
